NEW DELHI: ITBP head constable Judoka Kalpana Devi has bagged first ever gold medal for India in prestigious third Lusofonias Games 2013-14 (Goa) held between January 21 and 27, 2014. In 52 kg weight category, Head Constable Kalpana Devi defeated Un Si Man of Macao (China) in the final fight.
Kaplana Devi is a world class judo player. In September 2010, she had won a Gold Medal in the Women's World Cup Judo Championship held in Uzbekistan and won Bronze Medal in World Judo Grand Prix in Tashkand.
Kalpana also won Gold medal in World Police and Fire Games during 2013.
The games are headed by the Association of Portuguese speaking Olympic Committee (ACOLOP) and held after every four years. It is a mega sporting event with the participation of 12 national Olympic countries featuring nine sports including Judo.
